Introducing the Obstetric Emergency Department (OBED): Specialized Emergency Care for Expectant Mothers

At UNC Health Appalachian, we are committed to providing exceptional care for mothers and babies at every stage of pregnancy. That’s why we are excited to introduce the new Obstetric Emergency Department (OBED), now open within the Marchese Birthing Center at Watauga Medical Center.

Staffed 24/7 by board-certified OB/GYNs and expert obstetric nurses, OBED provides specialized emergency care for pregnant patients experiencing unexpected medical concerns at 20 weeks of pregnancy or later. Unlike a traditional emergency department, OBED is specifically designed to care for pregnancy-related needs, offering immediate access to advanced laboratory and imaging services alongside expert evaluation and treatment tailored to expectant mothers.

Whether you have concerns about symptoms, changes during pregnancy, or unexpected complications, our dedicated team is here to provide timely, compassionate care when you need it most.

Because when it comes to caring for you and your baby, specialized care matters.
