Compression Bandaging for Caregiver

Supplies

Eucerin Lotion (low pH), Tape, Tricofix (stockinette), Mollelast (finger wrap)

Rosidal (soft foam), Rosidal K (6 cm, 8 cm, & 10 cm)

Step 1

Cleanse/ wash arm and hand. Apply lotion.

Step 2

Cut stockinette longer than length of arm, cutting thumb hole.

Step 3

Apply stockinette over arm.

Step 4

Fold up stockinette to wrist, begin wrapping fingers, using Mollelast crossing over top of hand.

Step 5

Continue wrap around each finger (begin wrap at small thumb or small finger)

Step 6

Continue wrapping each finger, ending base of palm (Wrap same direction around each finger)

Step 7

Note wrapping in palm Palm open

Step 8

Pull stockinette over fingers

Step 9

Begin wrapping with Rosidal (foam), beginning hand, wrapping to top of the arm with 50% overlap (wrapping as smooth as possible)

Step 10

Wrap to the top of the arm, tucking foam in at top of arm

Step 11

Fold stockinette down over top of foam at arm and knuckles

Step 12

Wrap Rosidal K (6 or 8 cm) Ace type bandage, beginning top of hand, going between index and thumb

Step 13

Continue overlapping in figure 8 design, ending past wrist

Step 14

Begin second bandage, Rosidal K (10 cm) at wrist, continue wrapping to top of arm with 50% overlap

Step 15

At top of arm, tape to secure Rosidal K

Step 16

Add up to 2 layers as instructed. Begin second layer of Rosidal K (10 cm) at wrist, wrapping in the opposite direction to top of arm, secure with tape.

Remove or contact your therapist if discomfort, increased edema or pain is noted.
